25/11/2016: SDRO does not issue fines by email

We are aware of an email scam notifying recipients they have been issued with a penalty notice.

Note: NSW Police have recently commenced issuing penalty notices by email, however a notice will only be issued by this method where the person responsible for the offence voluntarily provides their email address at the time of speaking with the officer.

If you receive a penalty notice by email, and you did not recently offer your email address to a police officer, do not pay anything until you check the validity of the notice. You can check the validity of any penalty notice issued in NSW by using myPenalty or by calling 1300 655 805.

If you have paid, please contact your bank or financial institution in the first instance, and contact the Australian Government Scamwatch service.

We also strongly recommend, if you have not provided your email address to a police officer, that you do not click on the links or open attachments provided in the email as they may contain viruses.
